Hiking in Grand Canyon offers some of the best hiking opportunities available in the world! While all of our rafting adventures offer hiking excursions, our Hiker’s Discovery is specifically designed for the hiking enthusiast seeking the ultimate hiking experience in combination with our Classic Adventure on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Hiker’s Discovery is available in full, upper or lower trip length options.
MORE
The Hiker’s Discovery is planned in the cooler months of early April and late September to take full advantage of the moderate daytime temperatures. Some hikes that are avoided during the summer heat are perfect during the cooler shoulder season. Oftentimes, this adventure provides an opportunity to visit seldom-seen places that are simply too challenging to attempt in the hotter months of year.
If you think you are a good candidate for the Grand Canyon Hiker’s Discovery, you should be physically fit, as well as an experienced hiker used to hiking long distances and/or in rugged terrain. Our enthusiastic guides will keep a quick pace (a moderate pace is an option too) on the trail in order to get the most out of each day. You should also be prepared to get up extra early occasionally or get into camp late in the day (commonly eating dinner in the dark) in order to maximize hiking time. The lengths of hikes vary daily; some hikes could take 2 to 3 hours or less, and you can expect one or two hikes taking as long as 7 to 8 hours. Terrain in Grand Canyon may include one or more of the following conditions: ledges and drop-offs, loose and slippery rocks, scrambling up, over and around large rocks, 2000-3000 feet elevation gain and loss, while other hikes may requires the use of ropes.
We gear this trip to the hiking enthusiast. If it is your desire to hike and explore Grand Canyon as much as possible, this is the Grand Canyon adventure for you. As a word of caution, if you are not a hiking enthusiast and don’t wish to hike very much on your rafting expedition, this may not be the best choice for you as you may end up sitting out many of the hikes. We suggest that you consider your own ability for participating in this adventure, as well as anyone else that you might bring on this trip.
We love hiking and exploring Grand Canyon—let us share it with you!

This trip exceeded expectations. I'd expected most of the hiking to be fairly tame & less technical on established trails, and there were many hikes that met this expectation. However, I was very pleasantly surprised to find that many hikes (or options therefor) were really easy scrambles, not hikes i.e. off-trail routes with a little more technical challenge & some exposure. I'd expected the guides to be more risk-averse; it was refreshing to find that they were not and hence were able to cater to the capabilities & comfort levels of the group.
