Getting wet in the Grand Canyon! Who's betting tha Getting wet in the Grand Canyon! Who's betting that the second after the photo was taken, that these folks were commenting on how long it would take to get to that sun shine downstream? Even on trips with average highs around 100F you can get cold as the river is freezing!

Wildlife Wednesday! Are there bears at the bottom Wildlife Wednesday! Are there bears at the bottom of Grand Canyon? The answer is very rarely. While bears are fairly common up on the forested rims in the park, to see one by the river would be an extremely unusual occurrence. But it has happened. This one was spotted early in the trip by Badger rapid mile in 2018. In this area rims are very desert like and not great bear habitat. So this bear probably traveled a fair distance through desert. He was perhaps very thirsty and attracted to the water in the river. Years ago, one winter, a bear was photographed near the river below Lava rapids. So clearly they occasionally make an appearance. To read the full story of this sighting go to page 26 in this issue of the Boatmans Quarterly Review. https://www.gcrg.org/bqr/pdfs/31-3.pdf?fbclid=IwAR26xXtFDGXDrmve0LphTyn576ERIQzq1makcYM6ASEMdMBK_SZJzIDiDJw.

The Grand Canyon region is traditional homelands for 11 associated tribes. They are the: Havasupai, Hopi, and Hualapai Tribes, the Kaibab, Las Vegas, Utah, San Juan Southern and Moapa Bands of Paiute Indians tribes, the Navajo Nation (Diné), Yavapai- Apache, and Pueblo of Zuni. They continue to work in partnership with the park and nonprofits as stewards of these lands.

My life’s work is the care for, and protection of, our nation’s wealth, it’s natural resources. I am so very impressed by your company’s, and your guide’s diligent care and stewardship for the long term health of the Grand Canyon ecosystem and river corridor. Indeed, I feel very good about booking with your company and am confident that the future of this precious place is in great hands as long as your company and personnel are caring for it and working within it.

Wow-our river guides were amazing. Very personable, and clearly focused on our group safety at all times. I appreciated that two of them were women as well...great role models for the teenage girls in our trip! I know they were stressed about the uncertainty of the COVID world, but I think they adapted to new protocols well, and as a result, our trip was an awesome experience, and a relief from the stress of the current world.

I couldn't have asked for a better time. Ever. This was 14 days of pure joy and adventure. It went by so fast, too. I wish it never ended. There were so many highlights from the river, guides, stories, Little Colorado River being so blue, the stars at night so bright, the moon at night, the critters, the hikes were AMAZING, the waterfalls, the other customers, the food, the good times at night in camp eating and telling stories and having fun. I could go on and on

IIn a life of far more than my fair share of amazing travel experiences ( I spend more than half of my time traveling the globe) I have NEVER had a better trip or one with better people. I do not use this choice of words lightly.
