Why we have to place trips on sale from time-to-time:

  • Fill the paddle raft(s): on either our All-Paddle Adventure or Classic Adventures, we have paddle rafts that MUST be filled with 6 paddlers every single day per paddle boat. If a trip doesn’t have enough bookings, we may not be able to send the paddle raft on the trip, which means some people would really miss out if that’s the raft they’d like to be on.
  • Avoid canceling trips: while it’s extremely unlikely we would cancel a trip, and is a very last resort action, trips with extremely low bookings could have some risk of canceling. We absolutely do not want to cancel trips, thus it is better incentivizing more bookings with discounts and not cancel anyone already on a trip.
  • Guide income: our guides are scheduled months prior to the start of the season and are expecting that income and have made their plans around their trips. While it might be advantageous to AzRA to decide that on trips with low (or no bookings) to cancel the trip or run the trip with less guides/boats, this would be a detriment to our guides. Whether a trip is fully booked or has low bookings, the cost to run the trip is essentially the same as we do not want to cancel trips our guides are expecting to work.
  • User days allocated to AzRA from the National Park Service: Grand Canyon rafting companies are allotted “user days” (total number of days each guest is on the river. Ex: if you are on an 8 day trip, you will use 8 of our user days). Grand Canyon National Park Service allocates these amounts to each outfitter, and if any of us use less than our allotment, we risk being granted less “user days” in the future. It is always our goal to schedule and use all of our allocated user days every year.
  • Yes, I'm interested in last minute deals!
