Plant-Based Meals on Your Grand Canyon Rafting Adventure

March 17, 2025General Info, River RecipesMegan Collier

What to Expect: Plant-Based Food Options for Your Next AzRA Trip

Whether it’s for environmental, ethical, or health reasons, Arizona Raft Adventures is committed to offering plant-based options on our river trips. From a vegetarian’s perspective, the thoughtfulness that goes into these dietary accommodations is truly impressive.

Our Typical Menu:

On the river, we serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet-style. While the menu may vary throughout the season, you can always expect delicious, well-prepared meals.

Some items are staples at every breakfast and lunch, like cereal and fresh fruit in the morning, and fruit, candy, and peanut butter and jelly fixings at lunch. Snacks are almost always available, and appetizers are offered before dinner to keep everyone satisfied.

For a closer look at what’s on the menu, check out this blog.

Plant-Based Options:

Unlike many other outfitters, Arizona Raft Adventures offers a diverse range of plant-based protein options. In addition to the usual beans, peanut butter, and tofu, we feature tempeh, Beyond Meat, black bean burgers, and a variety of nut and seed spreads.

We also provide plant-based milk and creamer for your convenience. For snacks, you’ll find options like peanut butter pretzels, GORP, Huppy Bars, and hummus—delicious ways to fuel up with plant-based protein.

Behind the Scenes:

While we can’t guarantee we’ll meet every single dietary preference, our food room and guide staff go above and beyond to accommodate everyone’s needs. Our food room staff in Flagstaff is dedicated to planning the menu, sourcing essential items, and packing food for each trip.

Each adventure has a guide who serves as the head cook. They collaborate with the food room staff to pack the meals, manage the menu, and ensure coolers are attended to while on the river. The head cook and food room team work closely together before each trip to make sure dietary needs are covered and to come up with creative solutions to meet everyone’s requirements.

Alignment with Our Mission:

While we can’t guarantee that every plant-based option will be perfect for everyone or offer endless variety, there will be something for you.

Our mission is to provide exceptional and participatory Grand Canyon raft adventures that inspire a sense of wonder for both the wild places we explore and the lives we touch along the way. Including plant-based diets in our meal offerings is part of making our trips inclusive, engaging, and special. Sharing meals on the river fosters a sense of community, and we take pride in creating plant-based options that contribute to that experience.
