Guide Profile-Colter Tucker

Meet Colter Tucker

Colter (part of the Tucker clan at AzRA) is a laid-back guide with great leadership skills. If you’ve been on a trip with him, you’ll sense that he’s calm and collected, and leads a terrific trip. He’s recently moved into management here in the AzRA office, and has been a member of AzRA’s Advisory Committee, which is a group of guides that act as a liaison between the management team and the guide team. Leave a comment below if you’ve had a great time on the river with Colter!

Where were you born? Tell us a little about yourself!

I was born in Logan, Utah. Grew up in Central Utah in a small town called Richfield, UT.

What’s your history with AzRA?

This is my 7th season working for AzRA. I started out as an assistant in 2013 and then did my first “paid” AzRA trip in 2017.

When did you start guiding?

I started guiding in Utah at Holiday River Expeditions in 2014, with a goal of guiding for Arizona Raft Adventures.

What types of trips do you guide?

Oar trips, All Paddles, and swamp for motor trips.

What are your favorite hikes & rapids? Why?

I like 50 Mile, and Whispering Springs up Kanab Canyon. They are both beautiful and a fun adventure to the final destination. Granite is my favorite rapid, essentially because it is like going through a washing machine.

What do you do when not guiding?

When I am not guiding on the river I am working in the Office at AzRA or out adventuring.

Do you have hobbies, or things you like to do?

Mountain Biking, Skiing, Snowboarding and Snowmobiling!

What do you love about the Canyon and guiding?

Watching people fall in love with one of my favorite places on earth!

Any advice you would give guests that are planning a trip with us?

It’s not a vacation its an adventure. You are going to be too hot, too cold, dirty, uncomfortable, exhausted, sleep deprived, but it will be one of the most exciting things you’ve every done.

Colter took his brother-in-law on a trip with us recently, and made this really fun video if you’d like to watch it!

I had the pleasure of traveling with Colter this past May as the trip leader.
He is a professional in every sense of the word. A real asset to AzRA.

Colter was an oar boat guide on my first river trip in 2017, a paddle raft guide in 2019 and the trip leader in 2023. I have been witness to him growing up on the river and becoming a talented river guide.

Colter was our guide in April. He was super throughout our trip. I never had a better verbal sparing partner! I did not push him off the cliff either.
