Grand Canyon Photo Contest – 2012 Winners

Grand Canyon Photo Contest

Grand Canyon Narrows Fielding Mercer

Runner Up, Canyon Narrows by Fielding Mercer

Every year, Arizona Raft Adventures holds a Grand Canyon Photo Contest. This years theme is “Inner Grand Canyon.” Raft participants and Grand Canyon photographers submit entries  via Arizona Raft Adventures Facebook page or by email to info@azraft.com.  Arizona Raft Adventures announces the winners in November and then features the winner on the annual seasonal card.

This year’s grand prize is awarded to Rebecca Wilks! She captures a gorgeous photo of the Pumpkin Spring in the Inner Canyon at about river mile 213. Pumpkin Spring got its name because of it’s orange-like color and resemblance to look like a pumpkin. The pumpkin view is best seen from a raft on the River. It’s hard to see the pumpkin resemblance from Rebecca’s photo, nevertheless, she captures the beauty of the Pumpkin Spring from above.

The Pumpkin Spring might appear as an inviting place to take a soak, however, this is not recommended. The water in the limestone pool is a deadly mixture of arsenic, lead, zinc and copper. Nevertheless, this beautiful natural wonder captures the attention of river runners and photographers from all over the world.
